You can get Wide-Text Driver that can expand columns & rows of DOS prompt on Windows95/98/Me. If you usually use DOS prompt and want to make it wide, I recommend this tool to you. *You can set DOS window's size anyway you want with built-in function (in property dialog) on NT4.0, 2000, XP without any tools.
More information about spam (and its origin) in addition to "basics of spam" in above site:
It is generally accepted that "spam" is origined from Monty Python's comedy song, but another school maintain that it comes from the computer group lab at the University of Southern California who gave it the name because it has many of the same characteristics as the lunchmeat SPAM (that described at spam by Webopaedia).
You will know what are "foo" and "bar" that can be seen in manual of computer software. * The page linked above is on the WebArchive.org, because of original page was gone away. Refer also HOGE.
Programs to keep CPU cool / CPUの加熱を抑えるプログラム (English text / 英語)
Following programs (CpuIdle, DOSidle, Rain, Waterfall, and KCPUCooler) keep CPU cooler than ususal with running a HLT command in an idle priority thread under Windows95/98. HLT command that is offerd by modern CPU make clock halted and CPU suspended. If you are a user of note PC, you can make your PC's battery life longer using these programs. And if your pc has fan that works according to CPU's temparature, these programs decrease fan's working time and keep your PC silent (and save power for driving fan, also stretch battery life). Note: Users of Windows NT/2000/XP or of most of PC-Unix don't need these kind of tools, because those OS do same HLT technique by itself.
Web Banner Filtering / Webバナー・フィルタリング (English text / 英語)
You can get program and information to speed up your web-surfing by filtering commercial Net-banner, and you can reject selective cookies. But you can't use it for some pages such as WebBBS that refuses proxy access. And you might get the wrong contents for some pages made by CGI. So, you need bypass the local proxy as you think it right. If you're a user of Windows, OS/2, BeOS, Unix, FreeBSD, RedHat Linux, Internet Junkbuster (or real-time filtering software; Guidescope or Privoxy that separated from Internet Junkbuster and keep relation to IJB) is easy to do it, and effective, I recommend it and I'm also using it (IJ or Privoxy; the latter is better because of Win32 based and available HTTP 1.1). And also I recommend Outpost firewall that is for personal firewall product, but has banner cut function. I'm using it too. That takes low system resources of Windows rather than ZoneAlarm that is famouse for same category product.
For Macintosh, check WebWasher or WebFree or AdKiller. -- You can use it to screen out advertisements, unwanted images or links, and web cookies.--(excerpt from the site)
Secure File Deleting / 安全なファイル削除 (English text / 英語)
You can get program for Windows to delete file securely. I've had no toubles since I installed BCWipe in summer of 1998. And easy to use. You can choose deleting option from Normal or U.S. DoD. BCWipe version 2 is a freeware, but laters are shareware.
If you want a free tool, choose PGP freeware or Eraser or others from links on "Destroying Data". I changed it to PGP and Eraser, after BCWipe turned itself to shareware. [*] U.S. DoD wiping is enhanced shredding process to match U.S. Department of Defence recommendations (DoD 5220.22-M).
